COUNCILLORS in Moray are asking for money from the developers of an overhead power line between Rothes and Keith.
The council is requesting energy company SSEN pay to develop the 15-mile electrical power line.
The Scottish Government's energy consents & deployment unit (ECU) invited Moray Council to comment on the SSEN’s planning application.
Despite not objecting to the application on planning grounds, the members of the council's planning and regulatory services committee are asking the company to pay up to 10% of the scheme’s construction costs.
The money Moray Council receives would be split half and half between two funds.
The first would be used by the council for infrastructure and facilities in the area.
The second would go towards local communities.
Committee chair David Gordon said: "The developer’s contribution will maximise the local socio-economic benefits of this development to the wider local community.
"The contributions being sought would be fair, accurate and proportionate to mitigate any impact of the development."
